2 more signatures to make the arrest warrant valid Nov 10, 2008 | Mich109 MANILA, Philippines - There is a need for only two more signatures to make th arrest warrant for Eliseo dela Paz, former National Police comptroller, to be made valid.Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago released a press statement that there were already eight senators who have signed the document regarding the arrest of dela Paz. The senators who have affixed their signatures are namely, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Manuel Roxas II, Aqulino Pimentel Jr, Rodolfo Biazon, Francis Pangilinan, Jose Estrada, Ma Ana Consuelo Madrigal and Ramon Revilla Jr. Senator Miriam said that there must at least be 10 committee members to sign a document for the order to be implemented. Senator Miriam and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano have both agreed to hold a joint hearing in connection with the euro generals case. Santiago said that it will be better if the two committees hold a joint hearing to avoid trifles and to stop dela Paz in making pretentions. Dela Paz has also filed his petition to the Supreme Court to counter the foreign relations committee's jurisdiction. Dela Paz has failed to show up before the court last October 23 for the hearing and said that his case is not over the foreign affairs committee's jurisdiction but said that he would willingly cooperate to another committee. Senator Miriam charged a warrant of arrest versus dela Paz after the challenge on the jurisdiction the senator's committee was overridden. Senator Miriam stated that if the schedule for Bolante's hearing is this week, dela Paz will have to hold his next week. COMMENTS |
