MANILA, Philippines – A request was given by Opposition Senator Jamby Madrigal to the ethics committee to make an investigation on Senator Manny Villar Jr’s case regarding the C5 Road Extension Project.
Senator Madrigal’s complaint states that Senator Villar’s project was a conflict of interest and has caused it to result in a double entry in the 2008 National Budget.
She accused the Senator Villar to have had a malevolent and deceitful role in the said double insertion case. She added that the accused senator failed to separate his business interests from his job, thus, causing him to violate the law.
Villar said that he has answers for all the charges that is to be brought to him and that he has been expecting that there will be a complaint filed for him.
Senator Madrigal has already declared that she will suppress herself to be a part of the ethics committee that is lead by Senator Pia Cayetano.
The Opposition Senator Panfilo Lacson, the one to have opened up the issue on the C5 Road Extension double entry, is a part of the ethics committee.
Senator Madrigal added that she will prevent Senator Villar’s backups, Senator Joker Arroyo and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, from being designated to the ethics committee.
Senator Panfilo Lacson announced last week that he has at least two evidences enough to prove Senator Villar’s connection with the conflict of interest with the C5 Road Extension Project. He said that one will come before the ethics committee and the other to the Ombudsman.
