Mail thisRacist Skit Reflect OFWs True Situation
Oct 07, 2008 | Mich109
MANILA, Philippines – The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, aka Bayan, stated on a Tuesday that the portrayal of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) was a true characterization of the life of OFWs.
The Bayan group claimed that the lack of good job opportunities in our country drives the Filipinos to work overseas. As they do so, they are bound to face racism and discrimination. They are also being more vulnerable to harassments and unlikely attacks.
The group, represented by Bayan Secretary Renato Reyes, also said that the skit that the BBC presented was an atrocious reminder of the situation of Filipinos that has not been considered by the Philippine government.
The skit, entitled “Harry and Paul” shows comedian Harry ordering a postman to tell his Friend Paul Whitehouse that he is sending his Filipino maid to mate with him. This was aired September 26, 2008.
Bayan demanded that the government should take action and protest of a racist remark.
OFWs are considered the heroes of today. Reyes also said that if the government does not take certain actions regarding this incident, the praises that the government gives to them would be absurd.
Reyes also said that the BBC should have a public apology to the Filipino people and adding to that is that they should stop airing disrespectful skits.
