| Senator Villar’s Case should be handled by the Ombudsman Oct 06, 2008 | Mich109 The issue has not yet been cleared up to say that Senator Manuel Villar Jr. was guilty but it will not prevent Senator Maria Ana Consuelo Jamby Madrigal from charging complaints with the ethics committee in account for the alleged conflict of interest relative to the road budget this year.According to Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the case must be forwarded to the Ombudsman for further investigation citing into criminal proceedings. Senator Santiago also stated it was said in the Constitution that any public official should not take part on any financial interest thereby Senator Villar’s case, if that is the main controversy, should be forwarded to the Ombudsman for investigation. Senator Panfilo Lacson stated in his privilege speech last September 25, 2008 that Senator Manny Villar is affiliated to the double insertion case. He claims that the P200 million allotted for the extension of the C5 Road and the other P200 million allotted for the construction of a road from South Luzon Expressway to Sucat in Parañaque City were the same project. Jamby Madrigal also accused the alleged Senator of having owned the Brittany Corp with the benefit he got from the project. As the issue goes in circles, the accused, Senator Villar have remained silent and refused to claim any misconduct. The issue has been going the rounds for weeks and is slowing down the chamber’s work. This raised the concern of the Palace that it might also affect the 2009 budget approval. COMMENTS |
